As I am writing this blog to distract myself from the other 15 assignments due, I come to a realization that I have become a procrastinator. Yes. I admit it. College has made me a procrastinator. In high school, I was the student who always completed their homework days before it was due. Now, I still get my homework done (don’t get me wrong), but I complete it just a few hours before it is due. It is not always like this. See, as a college student, you come back from summer break and are ready to start the fall semester with full energy. Fall semester passes by quickly and all of the sudden, it is winter break. Winter break can drain an individual. There are holidays, traveling, and other plans students may have. Then, students come back to school for the spring semester and are drained. It’s me. I am students. However, I still push and motivate myself until the good old spring break comes into place. Spring break is a week that is very much needed. The only thing is that most students don’t exactly want to come back from it. There is only a month and a half left. However, that month and a half feels like a year. At least for me it does. It goes so slow, and I have no motivation to continue.
I am here to give you some tips on some stuff I do to not overwhelm myself this time of year. For starters, I like to give myself “rewarding” breaks after an hour of work. Whether it is to get up and stretch or go grab a snack. In addition, I also like to have some moments to reflect on my day. Sometimes a student’s day can get very busy, but I take time to think about how I am feeling about an upcoming exam or how I feel about an assignment I turned in. It is important to always listen to your feelings. If you are overwhelmed, admit it to yourself and take a longer break. Plus, NAPS. I try to nap. Instead of drinking five coffees, I try to take a 30 minute nap when I can, and I feel overly stressed. Of course, I am human and once that alarm goes off, I want to shut it up and go back to sleep, but those due dates encourage me.
Breaks are great for students to relax, but there are also times students get so used to having no school work that it is hard to readjust after a break. It is important to remember that while studying for exams and staying up late at night to complete homework, there is a human behind those books and screens. Taking care of yourself is just as important as getting an A in that course that you are worried about.
