One thing we all worried about Senior Year was how in the heck we were going to afford these colleges we wanted. Those of us with a lot of ambition started researching tuition costs and applying for scholarships. Some of us even got enough to cover tuition, books, housing and food! I was one of those students. I calculated costs and tried to apply for enough scholarships to cover the majority of it and at first I had enough. My classes were paid for, rent was taken care of, the meal plan was purchased, I bought all of my books and my bank account was completely empty. At first I didn’t mind. I had everything taken care of, what more could I need? Then my friends wanted to go clubbing. Then they wanted to buy new college wardrobes. Then we wanted to take day trips to the beach. I had all these things I wanted to do but zero money left! Luckily for me I was able to find a job to save up some extra spending money and save for next semester, but some kids aren’t as lucky. To make sure that you’re really financially stable in your first semesters of college save up more money then you need, because you never know what fun you’ll want to get into.
