It’s that time of the year again, and whether we like it or not, we have to try to survive this ‘Midterm Madness’. As a first year student, I have found to find college midterms very different than any I took in high school. In my point of view, I see that there should be more time invested in studying, because cramming is not going to help at all. Last semester was a learning process for me, as I took on many STEM focused classes that required me to do a lot of practice problems. As a visual person, I developed many different ways in which helped me understand the many concepts taught in class. Some studying habits I found for these courses were study groups, doing problems on a white board (talking out the process can help), flashcards, office hours and yes, my favorite, Khan Academy (to fill in those small gaps you still have). However, all these habits should be done way before your exam, because it is always a good thing to study bit by bit each day. Some resources I found at school that has helped me a lot is that we have note-takers for each class (in case you are not good at writing notes), study groups, one to one tutoring, office hours with professors/TA’s and more. As time goes by, I found a new way to approach each midterm and have successfully been satisfied with my results. Don’t let this ‘Midterm Madness’ get to you, taking it one step at a time can go a long way.
