Dear Mr. Stricker,

As I look back on this holiday season my heart is overwhelmed with thanks. So I decided to say thank you in the best way I know how-writing. Thank you so much for taking the time from your busy schedule to write me a letter of recommendation for Illinois Wesleyan when I was applying.

I also wanted to thank you for never giving up on me, even though at times I wanted to give up on myself, Math has never been my cup of tea and around the second semester, I [with the disapproval of my mom] was ready to check out on, not just math, but school in general. But somewhere between the F.O.I.L. method and “Completing the Square” I got it. I didn’t just get the concept of math, but the veracity in the phrase, “Hard work pays off”, and I’ve had the Ohh yeah I got an A” smile on my face more than once, and it’s honestly, because of the countless hours after school you’ve put in to help me understand at a pace that was comfortable. And surprisingly, over the course of the year, I’ve developed a work balance between complaining about school and stressing out on school and it’s basically to Just Do It (Like Nike) and I have you to thank.. 😉

Well anyway I just wanted to say thank you [again] from the bottom of my heart. I know you put a lot of time and effort into my letter and I hope you know how much I appreciate it.

I hope I can do the same for someone else someday.

P.s I came across this quote that I thought described you perfectly everything.

The dream begins with a teacher who believes in you, who tugs and
pushes and leads you to the next plateau, sometimes poking you with a
sharp stick called “truth.” – Dan Rather

[The teacher that is mentioned is you, expecially with the famous: “Stop whining Cynthia, where’s your book?”]

Sincerely, Cynthia
