As a high school senior two years ago I had no idea what people meant when they said, “Your college years will fly by.” In reality, my college years have flown by unbelievably quickly. One moment I was choosing classes for my sophomore year, the next minute I was looking up Internship opportunities for junior year. This semester has come so fast. As I stop to remember the semester I remember the good time and the not-so-good times. For instances: I met some amazing friends. I went to several football games where we held the title as undefeated (not for long.) I registered for a theater class- a class I had no intention of liking. Needless to say, it was only of the best classes I have taken here at IWU. I also received my first “B,” stumbled on a presentation, and made a complete fool of myself in class when I decided not to do the readings; It happens. The best thing to do in these situations is to learn from them. This holiday season I hope you receive the gift of worth: a grade does not determine your self worth, Relaxation: You stumbled on a presentation? So what, you’re not the first person to st-st-stutter. Get it over it. There will be plenty of other opportunities to show off your Elizabethan language! And finally, this holiday season I hope you receive the gift of determination. College gets harder from here- it really does. You’ll pull all-nighters, wish you could sleep in 15 more minutes, hope a deadline gets pushed back (it won’t!) and wish there was someone to tell you that you can do it. SO here I am telling you- you can do it. I promise!
