I’m currently a junior in college, so that officially makes me an upperclassman ! I find it a bit crazy because a little over two years ago I was a Freshman who didn’t know what she got herself into by moving miles away from home. Although I am far from home, I have gotten to know more people and it feels like I have built a great community around me over the years, along with connections. I’m grateful for all the clubs and organizations I am involved in and my on-campus jobs that have led me to meet amazing people. I consider myself being in the “Highly involved on campus” category ever since my freshman year. Some might say that I am a pretty busy woman. With 5 jobs and 2 clubs/organizations that I’m a part of in the Exec board. Comparing to my sophomore and current year, freshman year was easy breezy. I was barely getting used to the swing of things and just getting to know people with similar interests. My sophomore year got a lot more hectic since I took 5 on-campus jobs that year and now I have about 6 but somehow I’m managing better than my sophomore year.
Most of my jobs are in the film department/communications building which is why it doesn’t feel like a lot… until time starts catching up to you and you find yourself struggling to keep up with everything. It started to feel like I couldn’t keep up in the middle of Fall semester of my sophomore year, the workload for each class starts to get heavy and out of nowhere you start to find yourself trying to do all assignments for all classes at once because they are due the next day. Not going to lie, it was very draining and not good for my mental health. I’m a very stubborn person, so it was hard for me to put pause on my extracurricular activities and focus on what was most important, so I did end up burning out, and struggled a lot during that time. Now, in my junior year… I am learning to be more at peace and pay attention to my overall health, I still have 6 jobs but i do make less hours and my schedule is very flexible. So that helped a lot, I also keep track of everything I need to do during the week on my agenda, cause I like to cross out lists when I’m done doing them. I have also learned to balance school and work life with my personal/social life. I always make time for myself, because that’s a healthy lifestyle especially for a college student. Like I said most people say I am a busy woman, but I never miss out on the fun. Those people are my friends.
