For spring break this year I will be headed to Memphis, Tennesse where I am going to be working with many different organizations that focus on community redevelopment, felon reentry programs, and the beautification of communal spaces! I am going with the Alternative Spring Break organization that is here at Illinois State! A group of honors students is going to be traveling from ISU to Memphis where we get to work for the week with these amazing organizations. What is also really nice is that we have excursions built into our trip where we get to know the history of Memphis and learn more about the communities that we are helping in. I am super excited as this is the second trip that I am going to be taking with Alternative Breaks and I can’t wait to head out. One thing I’m really looking forward to as a Psychology major is working with the school districts that are down in Memphis and seeing what teaching/classroom styles are like down in Memphis. We leave on Sunday before Spring Break officially starts but we get back on a Friday night which means that after this amazing trip I still get to go home for the weekend and enjoy some time with my family which is exciting. It will be great to have a break from classes and get to experience new things on a one-on-one experience. I highly recommend trying to get involved on campus with any sort of trip service work that your school offers because it is a great way to make friends and experience new things!
