As I’m getting settled into my grove for senior year, it still amazes me that this is it. My last year as an undergrad. Time management has never been one of my strong suits and although I have tried to make it better, nothing I have done has really worked, until now. I know right? It is my senior year and I finally figured it out! Except I haven’t, instead I just don’t have the time to procrastinate. Between juggling classes, one of which is independent study; research, job searching, community partnership project, being president of a registered student organization, and grad school applications; there literally no time in my day. But the thing is, I wouldn’t change any of it, it is making my senior year worth remembering. People ask me all the time about how do I get to enjoy my senior year when I am so busy but honestly, I can’t imagine enjoying it any other way.
I know it sounds like I have it all figured out, but I don’t. Instead I’ve let go, there are just some things that I can’t control and if I continue to try and control them, May is going to come and go and before I know it I will have graduated without forming any memories other than the times and things I’ve stressed over. Being a first generation student, we face many challenges that most students don’t but that does not mean we should not be able to enjoy ourselves. It has taken me a while to realize that, and so I want to pass it along to you so that you don’t fly through college without truly experiencing what it could be. With that, do not over commit yourself, trying to enjoy your time; you would just be going from one extreme to another. Just find where you fit in and let all the other pieces just come together.
