Happy New Year everyone! It’s that time of the year again where life takes a whole new fresh start. Well at least, we want it to. There are several new year resolutions and goals we want to achieve, however we should take it one step at a time. That is why, I take every ‘break’ to my advantage now that I’m a college student.
There’s an expression that goes, “Work Hard, Play Hard”, which is one of my favorite mottos I stand by. The school year is long and can be quite stressful that there really isn’t that much time to relax. What I have come to realized from becoming a college student is that breaks are more productive than they have been in the past. What does that mean exactly? No more spending my time watching a season of Grey’s Anatomy in one day, or eating a whole box of Bagel Bites in one setting. Rather, I now spend my time focusing on how to improve myself as a student and researching summer opportunities.
This is where my expression comes in. It may sound like its mostly the “Work Hard” aspect taking place, which it is, but there’s always a reward after all this which then comes, the “Play Hard”. I usually try to fulfill tasks periodically and then I reward myself by going out with friends or treating myself with a chocolate crepe (I love food you guys). To put it in other words, when are you going to have a chance to write detailed cover letters, essays and apply to several internships during the school year? If you do, then kudos to you, but most students have a hard time finding time to do this.
Breaks are meant for relaxing, which I completely understand, don’t think I don’t have my lazy days! Yet, take at least a day to be productive because then you’ll realize how much your efforts can help you in the long run. You never know, that one day you decided to skip watching 10 episodes of The Walking Dead in order to finish up an essay for a scholarship, can actually lead you to winning it and saving money for college!
