On Aug. 26th at 4pm EST, we hosted a Google+ Hangout where we will got real and talked about some of the situations and issues that come up for first-generation students as they journey through college, as well as ways to deal with them. From being called a sell-out from friends and family back home, dealing with culture shock, and discovering how finances have a social impact among peers, we discussed it all! Panelists included:

Khalil Johnson, an I’m First Scholarship winner/blogger and sophomore at Pitzer College

Alex Montes, an I’m First Scholarship winner/blogger and senior at University of Rochester

Courtney Taylor, I’m First Summer Assistant and current first-gen senior at American University

Chelsea Jones, moderator and Associate Director of Student Programs for I’m First
