Last week, I had the privilege of attending the Winners Convening for the College Knowledge Challenge at Mozilla HQ in Mountain View, California. If you aren’t already aware, I’m First is one of 20 winners of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation sponsored College Knowledge Challenge, funding innovative mobile and web application development in support of college access and completion for low-income, first-generation college students. We are honored to be among the winners.

It was an inspiring two days in Mountain View with my fellow grant winners and sponsors from the Gates Foundation, Facebook, College Summit, and King Center Charter School. I learned a ton and am stoked for the next six months ahead.

Over the next six months, with the help of this grant, we’ll be developing the I’m First web app with a focus on increasing its capabilities via Facebook to leverage the social network. Students and their supporters will be able to sign up and build a profile, search and connect with colleges, get answers to your questions about college, and follow our first-gen student blog.

We’ll be inviting new users soon and rolling out features and functionality in phases over the next six months. In September, we’ll be convening as a group again to launch our apps to the nation. Stay tuned!
