I cannot believe that we are more than halfway done with the Fall semester! Here in Geneva the leaves are changing and giving us beautiful fall foliage to admire. In this post, I want to talk about my favorite spots to study on and off campus. In an earlier post I talked about the importance of switching up study spaces. Here is how I’ve been doing just that:
Campus Cafes
Here at Hobart and William Smith Colleges we have a coffee shop on campus called Au Bon Pain. There are tables right in the café and outlets for charging devices. I especially like to study there when I am craving coffee and conversation – I always see someone I know and that provides for a great study break!
Coffee Shops in town
In Geneva we have a few local coffee shops that are great for studying. My favorite is Monaco’s coffee which is just a few blocks from the Colleges. It provides me with such a relaxed study atmosphere – a true gem of Geneva, New York.
Library
I know it sounds obvious, but the school library is a fantastic place to get work done. At most colleges, as well as my own, there are designated spaces depending on your needs. These can range from totally silent study spaces to low chatter spaces. The library can be especially nice because you are bound to run into classmates who you can ask for help if needed, and vice versa.
Room
There’s no place like home – and your dorm room is your new home! I have found that some of my best papers have been written while sitting on my bed, music in the background, and a nice cup of hot chocolate on my nightstand. There is just something so special about studying in a place where you feel especially comfortable.
I have found that when I switch up study spaces, I am so much more productive than I would be if I just sat in one room for eight hours straight. When assessing where you should study, it’s important to take into account what type of atmosphere, and level of social interaction will help you the most with the assignments you need to complete. When I do not have too much homework, I may choose to go somewhere I know I will run into many people. During finals, however, I may choose the silent study room in my school’s library. In the end, it is ultimately essential for you to find what works best for you and your learning style.
