Applying for college is a really exciting and cool time. You are one step away from starting a new chapter in your life and being able to become more independent. You should be excited because all of your hard work in High School is about to pay off. However, it is also a scary and intense time period. One of the big scary things is what if I don’t get into the college I want. You are not alone if you think this, I thought this every day. It was always running through my head and really worried me. You just need to be confident in yourself and just know that if you didn’t get into the school you wanted it’s because there is something better out there for you.

A second big scary thing is if you are going to school with some of your friends or if you are going all alone to a new school. Going to a college with some friends is definitely a big help but making new friends is really really easy. Most people going to college are in the same position, they do not know anybody. After the first week of school, I already made 5 or 6 friends and we hung out every day. Everyone is very friendly, you do not need to be afraid of someone being mean or anything. In my dorm hall there was not one mean kid, everyone just wanted to be friends and hang out together. Every weekend people in my hall had Xbox tournaments and everyone was welcome to come and join. There is no need to be afraid, college is fun and making new friends is not hard at all.

The last big thing that most people find scary is being away from their family and not being able to see them as often. I go to school 4 hours away from home so I do not see my parents that much, I see them maybe once a month. It is very weird at first and hard to get used to but it does get easier. What helped me get through it was I called them every Sunday and we would talk for at least an hour. Also, we texted all the time and always kept in touch. Keeping in touch really helps ease the transition. I also had two brothers and we played on Xbox together all the time and we would always tell each other about our day and any exciting news that happened. I promise you it gets easier as time passes and as long as you keep in touch regularly. College is a very big and scary transition, but it will honestly be one of the best times of your life.
