Now that the New Year is here everyone is talking about his or her resolutions for 2016. Typically I forget to come up with resolutions, but this year I’m putting my energy towards improving myself in a way that will also improve my performance in school as well as mental health. My resolution for 2016 is simply to say ‘yes’ more often. While in college there is an immense amount of pressure to do well in a way that will reflect on your transcript with that evil little number called a GPA. Doing well by investing your time in academics is definitely important, however, something I have realized is socializing and going out is also important for your mental well-being. This last semester I spent a majority of my time alone thinking that I need to be keeping up with my consistent pile of to-dos and quickly found myself lacking the energy to go out. This eventually got worse to the point where I would often feel isolated and alone. Therefore, towards the end of the semester when I recognized my isolation only getting worse, I decided to take up offers from friends who would invite me out. The amount of improvement within those final weeks of the semester was huge – and now I want to make sure I continue this coming semester with the same mentality to just say yes more often.
