A lot of people refer to college as the best time of their life because of all of the friends that they made and experiences they had. I do love college for those reasons but I mostly love college because of the confusion it causes.

Society expects us young people to decide who we want to be for the rest of our lives during the scant years in college. Sure, when we were growing up the sky was the limit as to what we wanted to be. Now it’s crunch time and there is a lot of cluelessness. It’s difficult to know yourself so intimately that you know what career path you want to take.

It is that confusion that makes you learn more about yourself. You become hyperaware to what you are good at, what you enjoy, and what you don’t like. It is while paying attention to all of these things that you start really learning about yourself as a person. You then start trying to tailor all these factors into a career goal. A professor told me that confusion is excellent, because it is when you are confused that some actual learning is occurring.

I love how college provides you with a plethora of classes with which you can tinker to find what floats your boat. It’s the dabbing here, and picking off there that allows you to discover worlds that you probably never knew existed.

In high school I knew I liked science, but it was not until I took a Biology class here that I realized how much I love science, or more specifically Biology. I’m now on my way to becoming a Biology major.

The main important thing is to be patient and embrace the confusion. Chances are that you will find that you will end up right where you are meant to be in life if you simply pay attention to what intellectually stimulates you.
