jenny-85To all you college freshmen: GOOD JOB! To all the high school seniors: GOOD LUCK! College is definitely something to look forward to. The freshmen already in school probably know what I’m talking about. New people, new places, more friends and more exploration. Seniors, you’re not going to regret working your butt off for this.

When I was a freshman, I didn’t really like (*cough* hated *cough*) some of my classes. I had to take them for my major requirements since I was quite set on the premed track and had to get a move on. They were not my idea of fun. It definitely does make it harder to do well in these classes, since not only are they college-level, they take up time and the material doesn’t catch your interest. BUT! That is just the first bite of dark chocolate. It’s bitter, but it only gets sweeter and more delicious from there. Once you’re done with the introductory classes of your major, your classes only get more interesting! Think about it, if all your prerequisites are done, you can take the higher level classes! Biology 181 or Animal Behavior? In Animal Behavior, upperclassmen tell me you get to train fish! I didn’t know you could train fish! I want to take that class! I want to be a Pokémon master! (…It was my childhood dream.) And I will! After my prerequisites are done.  So, freshmen, don’t be bummed out about your maybe lackluster classes, it will only get better from here on.

And one thing I want to mention…is that sometimes, freshmen will not get into a class of their choice. If there’s a class that can only be taken every other semester, or once every two years, seniors and juniors will get first pickings. The freshmen…will get kicked out on the street. (Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Sophomores get kicked too.) Some classes are more popular than others and professors sometimes have to make that choice and cut down on the number of students. But you’ll always get a chance to take that class later on. Don’t be discouraged. At that time, you’ll get to see all the new freshmen get kicked. And laugh. Just kidding. Don’t be mean and scare off the freshmen. You were one too!
