I’m First is the newest initiative of Center for Student Opportunity designed to celebrate first-generation college graduates and support the next generation of students to become first.
Take the Pledge and Share Your Story: Through signing the pledge and creating a video on I’m First, you can announce to the world how excited you are about being the first in your family to go to college and what it means to you! Check out some vids and share your own!
I’m First will also help aspiring first-generation college students and their supporters make the most out of your college search process, all in one space! Here are some features that are coming soon to I’m First:
Build Your Student Profile: Here you will be able to highlight all the cool information about yourself, from SAT scores to extracurricular activities
Research and Connect with Colleges: You’ll be able to search colleges based on what you want, while also learning about the programs and resources that college campuses have to support first-generation students like you!
When you think about characteristics of what you’re looking for in a college, what are some of the first things that come to mind? Let me guess, I bet you said majors, cost of school, school’s location and a bunch of other stuff, right? Right! These are definitely great things to take into consideration when selecting a college to attend. However, I’m First would like you to include a bit more of a personal approach when looking at colleges to attend. As a first-generation college student, you will be the first to go to college. And that may look at little scary once you get on campus and have to navigate for yourself. I’m First believes it is extremely important to look at colleges and universities that have different programs and opportunities on campus that will help support your growth and development from the moment you step foot on campus to the moment you walk across the stage.

I’m First Scholarship and Blog: I’m First offers an annual $2,000, 4-year renewable scholarship to students who are in their senior year of high school and planning to attend an I’m First College Partner institution. Winners become I’m First Bloggers were they can blog about their college experiences as first-generation college students!
