Have you ever heard that time management is very important? Well indeed it is. However, knowing yourself is important as well. What do you know about yourself? Do you get distracted easily? Are you likely to procrastinate? Do you have a place where you like to work best? Do you work better alone or with people around you? How well do you know yourself?
This fall semester as a junior in college, I have noticed the importance of knowing myself in regards to how I manage time. Throughout these years, I have discovered that get easily distracted, I work better alone, I like to listen to music when I am doing work, and I can’t stay at a place for too long. Therefore, I have made arrangements accordingly. Now, I divide my work by days and make sure that I have completed the tasks or homework that I need to for the following day. I have also chosen a place where to do work and make adjustments if necessary. I like to get most of my work done at home, but since sometimes I get distracted, I try to do as much as I can in the library at school. For the most part, if I am feeling anxious or lonely, I listen to music since that helps me to calm down and to get my thoughts together. If I am feeling overwhelmed, I also take a 5 to 10 minutes break in which I walk around or look around, to breathe a little. Once I get back to work, I am ready to get concentrated.
This has been working for me very well and it is an entire new approach to how I manage time and address myself. I feel as though I have been attending to my needs and not merely just ignoring them or forcing myself to accomplishing work the way that works for others. Thus, my advice for you today is to get to know yourself better and make sure that you find ways to attend to your needs when it comes down to time management. This may help you become more successful.
Sincerely,
Brenda
