Stephanie worked at Arby’s for ten and a half months before she was fired for using her cell phone on the clock. I refused to get fired, mainly because I needed all the money I could make for college. However, admission decisions had just been released online and I had to use my phone at work to see if I had been accepted to the best college in the state of Georgia.
So I took myself, my anxiety, and my cell phone to the ladies restroom. I closed the stall door and logged onto the University of Georgia application on my iPhone to check the status of my application.
I got in.
Withholding the sheer joy I felt and not squealing at the top of my lungs in the restroom stall took every ounce of my being. I returned to the front counter with a huge grin on my face that even the frivolous demands by my annoying manager could not remove.
I had gotten accepted to one school, wait listed by another, and I was still awaiting my acceptance letter from my dream school in Chicago. However, at that moment in March of 2011, I knew I would be attending the University of Georgia.
For me, the decision was simple. UGA was the most affordable and had a great reputation. UGA was far from home but not too far and had a renowned journalism program.
Fast forward two years later; I am more in love with the University of Georgia than I thought I could ever be. Four semesters at the University of Georgia has showed me that the university is synonymous for endless possibility; it presents an atmosphere that breathes innovation, matchlessness, and inspiration. Choosing UGA is easily the best decision I have made in my life.
