Now that I’m a junior, I can tell you this: whoever told you that upper-level classes get easier…is partially correct. If you’re truly interested in your subject, then you’re probably one of those that will find themselves eager to go to class. If you’re ANYTHING like me, you just want to sleep. Sleep and not be productive.
And that is my biggest problem. Laziness.
I am EASILY distracted and a sloth when it comes to work. I’m that person that ends up on Tumblr looking for funny memes or youtube looking at cute cats after writing three sentences on an essay due the next day. For you highschoolers, my biggest advice is to start developing good habits that you should try to keep throughout your college life. Habits such as getting up early, eating breakfast, being early to your appointments to see the dean or professor. From the study I conducted of my suite mates, even your own personal rules such as no watching “Downton Abbey” or “Project Runway” on weekdays GREATLY increase productivity. Actually, it was more like I stopped watching with them…
The battle against my laziness was a losing battle until this year. I have armed myself with a new weapon: a productive friend/suitemate/mommy-figure that lives next door. It helps to have that one friend who wakes up insanely early and just gets stuff done. Don’t have that friend? Start hunting. I just need to see her doing work and BAM! I am guilted into doing work. It’s like magic!
And for those of you that like to skip class? My suite came up with the PERFECT solution. Painful, yes, but BRILLIANT. Every time you miss class, you pay into the suite money jar. First three times, you pay a dollar, when you reach six, pay five, and then you start paying nine dollars after you miss your ninth class. So excruciating, yet oh so EFFECTIVE! (Out of pity for my other suitemates, I convinced suite-mommy to cap it at nine.) And then the money can be used to buy suite goodies! Cookies and tea! Wings and pizza! Party supplies! I’m just talking about candy, cake and party hats, guys, *wink*.
