The acceptance letter was just the beginning. It was tough balancing work and college, but it was doable! I graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood; a first-generation college graduate. I started teaching in the fall. I applied and was accepted to graduate school. I sacrificed evenings, weekends, and summers to earn something that never seemed possible. This degree meant more. I wanted it for my parents who never had that chance. They were proud of me, but they didn’t know I was proud of them and the family they raised. In two years, I earned my master’s degree in Educational Leadership. The moral of the story, don’t give up. If it is in your heart, go after it! Work through the hardships and persevere! Do it for yourself, but also for those that never gave up on you. Adelante! TTU Class of 2004 and 2008
