Valentines Day.. Only a few short weeks away and recently I cannot help but to find myself completely and overwhelmingly elated. Before you confuse this jubilance with love, I’ll have you know that this excitement is actually built up from all the new and exciting things that have accompanied the start of the new semester. Now that I have had a full semester accomplished at my new school, the second semester is starting off with all the positive repercussions that come when getting involved and really searching for opportunities instead of waiting for them to find you. For example, as an international relations major I have a huge interest in studying by traveling. So, for spring break instead of going home, I will be spending the week in Cuba studying the history, culture and politics of such a fascinating country during a very revolutionary time period. In May I have another opportunity to travel with BU’s Global Business Brigades to provide micro finance advice to a developing community in Panama, and I also hope to study abroad in Spain following the trip to Panama. For these reasons, my heart is filled with excitement and complete gratitude for my college and the unique opportunities it has to offer. Although my college has a surplus of opportunities, they did not come knocking on my door, but instead I went searching for them myself. If you are interested in traveling while in school, then explore potential study abroad programs! If you have a dream job in mind then do some research on the types of internships your school or potential school will have to offer. Whatever your interests might be, I can assure you that there is a college out there that will fill your heart with just as much excitement as mine has done for me. So remember first gen students, follow your heart and let it lead you to all the exciting possibilities!
Oh, and Happy Valentines Day!
